Direct Super 8

Artist Ian Helliwell presents a hands-on audio-visual workshop for participants new to, or already familiar with super 8 film. Cameraless techniques for animating directly onto celluloid will be explored, with the goal of creating a short film assembled from everyone's hand made sequences edited together. A soundtrack will be made via tape splicing of found super 8 magnetic striped film - a random cut-up of pieces of sound footage to generate a collage of audio fragments, which when edited will form an accompaniment to the direct animation.

No previous knowledge or experience of the Super 8 format is required. Please note that the price for this workshop includes free admission to Unconscious Archives 4 which Ian is screening work in, and which takes place on Tuesday 7th February 2012 at Apiary Studios, Hackney Road.
