“I try to make work that responds uniquely to the unique situation in which it is made. For situation, one can usually read "location". This approach stems from years of early training in observational drawing, but I am also influenced by the idea of films as the outcome of a set of interacting factors: light, objects, camera, lenses, film stock etc. In discussion I hope to break down some of the distinctions included in this list” (Nicky Hamlyn)

Nicky Hamlyn is an internationally renowned and respected artist having completed over forty films and videotapes since 1974 that have been shown at venues around the world including the Images Festival in Toronto, the New York Film Festival, National Film Theatre and the Tate Britain. Nicky was an active member of the London Filmmakers Co-operative, co-founder and editor of The Undercut Reader and is the author of ‘Film Art Phenomena: a survey of experimental film and video’ (2003)

Simon Payne is a video maker. He studied Time Based Media at the Kent Institute of Art and Design in Maidstone between 1995-98, where Nicky Hamlyn was his tutor, and then Electronic Imaging at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee. He is currently undertaking a PhD by practice at the Royal College of Art. His videos are distributed by LUX and they have been screened at numerous venues worldwide. He teaches at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge.
