This feature length documentary from director Nick Vass follows Bryony Kimmings through the making of her one-woman show 7 day Drunk.
To create this piece Bryony spent 7 days in a state of self-induced intoxication to explore whether the historical and socially accepted links between artists and mind enhancing drugs, in this case alcohol, stood up against science.
In collaboration with a neuroscientist, psychiatrist, psychologist, IT expert and team of care staff, Bryony created all the material for her show at No.W.Here studios in Bethnal Green. Her alcohol intake was monitored and rose daily, she created work each day from 10-6pm, she kept a detailed video diary, was put in front of an audience daily and given practical and emotional tasks to complete to allow each expert to unpick the subject through their specialism.
This documentary follows an artists journey from concept to final work and is a beautiful insight into why artists create work, the world of addiction, Bryony’s personal relationship with alcohol and the battles between science and art.
Directed by Nick Vass. Featuring Bryony Kimmings.
7 Day Drunk is a Soho Theatre and Junction co-commission, funded by the Jerwood Charitable Foundation and Arts Council England.
